According to the official website of CEC: On the morning of April 16, 2019 local time, temporary power delivery was realized at Manvilai Hydropower Station in Cameroon, and a grid-connection ceremony was held at the project site. Mr. Gaston Essomba, Minister of Water Resources and Energy of Cameroon, attended the ceremony and delivered a speech.
At 10:30 a.m., Mr. Essomba and his entourage entered the central control room of Manvelai Hydropower Station, and the grid-connection ceremony officially began. Mr. Silanda, the chief director of the Cameroonian side and the operation and maintenance manager of the Cameroon National Transmission Company (SONATREL), who is in charge of the grid-connected power generation, reported to Mr. Essomba and other guests about the recent grid-connected power generation test, and introduced the power dispatch situation of the power station after it was connected to the southern grid with the general dispatching diagram of the central control building. He said that with the joint efforts of engineers from both China and Kazakstan, all the tests have been carried out smoothly and the power system of the power plant is running very well. After the power station is connected to the grid, the power will be delivered to the areas along the route through the southern power grid, including Yaounde, the capital of Cameroon.
Minister Essomba then delivered a speech. He first analyzed hydropower and thermal power from the cost of power generation, pointing out the price advantage and economic benefits of hydropower. He said that after the Manvelai hydropower plant is connected to the grid, many thermal power plants can be phased out, which will greatly save the country's power generation costs. The electricity output will be transmitted to six of the ten regions of the country through the southern power grid, which will greatly alleviate the shortage of electricity in the country. Mr. Minister said that the whole commissioning process was trouble-free, and the dream of Manvelai Hydropower Station to bring electricity to the people of Cameroon has finally become a reality. He expressed his heartfelt thanks to the CEC team, the project owner's organization and the National Transmission Company for their hard work and efforts during the period.
Mr. Chen Gao, Chief Director of the Chinese side and former Project Manager of Manvilai Hydropower Station, spoke on behalf of CEC. He said he was very happy that the electricity from Manvilai Hydropower Station had been successfully delivered to the homes of Cameroonian people, and he also thanked the Cameroonian government and the owner team for their strong support during the construction of the project.
Finally, all the staff took a group photo.
With an installed capacity of 211MW and a contract value of USD637 million, Manvilai Hydropower Station Project is the first project constructed by CECC in Kazakstan, and was once the largest single project under construction in Kazakstan. The project has been completed according to the contract schedule, and has won the praise of the owner and the supervision team. At the request of the government of Khartoum, CEC actively researched and implemented the temporary power transmission plan in light of the actual situation of the local power grid, and fully cooperated with the technical team of Khartoum in the joint commissioning and testing of the project, and finally realized the grid connection and power generation on April 15, which sent some of the power to thousands of households in advance, solving the urgent needs of Khartoum, and reflecting CEC's excellent technical capability and high sense of social responsibility, and winning wide recognition and praise.
